Round 1 Wrap Up
From the Pres
I'd like to wish everyone a big, warm welcome for the 2010 season, which had a perfect start when we played Lindfield at Lindfield last Saturday. Each match was very close but we managed to scrape through to win the lot. Congratulations to all the players and coaches and a big thank-you to all players who played multiple games for us – you contributed greatly to a most successful day.
My own highlight was seeing the fifth grade team running out - as we didn't field one last year – and them winning with a penalty goal on the bell. And Lindfield put on a great after-match roast for all players and supporters. We look forward very much to hosting them again next time round.
Knox Rugby Club has a huge day this coming Saturday, as we play our first game on our new home ground in Killara – Koola Oval on Koola Avenue. There are two playing fields at this location, so the new venue enables us to use multiple grounds simultaneously - to enjoy all the excitement in half the time!
The first match will be fourth grade, who kick off at 12 o’clock. I hope to see many of you down there to help us launch a new era in Knox Rugby.
Also we need to move and arrange a few things due to the move and need some hands to help us from 4pm on Thursday this week. We will be moving stuff from the Bru and cleaning some stuff up. If you can spare the time it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Nick Hamley
From the Club Captain
A very balmy day for the first round of season 2010 could not have gone any better. The fresh Lindfield Rugby Club were out to justify their promotion into first division and were never going to be a pushover. There was plenty of excitement around, as the young colts team lead by Rusty Trouncer took the field late morning, donning the new look hoop socks. A win for the colts really set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, with all grades coming away with hard fought wins. The first grade side especially had to grind out a tough game, with scrum half Hilly scoring a great chip and chase try to break the game open for the Knox boys. Although we came away with a clean sweep and a whooping 200 points for the club championship, we are still sitting on second place to Mosman who scored bonus points, which shows how competitive this season will be.
It is up to all players now to make sure that they are turning up to training and putting in the effort which, as always said, will pay off in the latter end of the season.
Next week sees us at our new home ground at Koola Park against Beecroft which will be a tough affair, so let’s make sure there is plenty of support throughout the day.
Congratulations to all players for their efforts on Saturday and hopefully the success we had will follow on for another great season for the club.
See you all on Saturday!
